How did CCFLTA get started?

CCFLTA began in the mid-1980’s by two teachers at Southwestern High School:  Linda Heppler and Carl Rizzo.  They recognized the need for networking with other foreign language colleagues and thought it best to start an organized network.  Their first meeting took place at Webb’s in Mayville because it was a centrally located place in the county.  The association was quickly organized within the first meeting complete with an election of the first officers.  Carl Rizzo was chosen to be the first chairman.  The subsequent meetings included dinner and various speakers.  The association has continued with many officers, locations and speakers.
